Welcome to Room 4, 2012
Hi all,
We have had a very busy start to the year with Life Education in Week 1 and we have now started our cricket coaching sessions to get ready for the Summer Tournament in Week 8. This week is our school triathlon and hopefully the weather will clear up for Thursday morning.
Keep an eye out on here for class information and published work by our very talented students.
Parents - if you need to see me about anything, please feel free to come and see me :)

Why school holidays should not be three weeks long by Cheyan
Why school holidays should not be three weeks long.
I strongly believe that the school holidays should not be three weeks long.
Firstly, your parents might have to take time off work or get someone to look after you which might cost a lot of money and they have to buy food and pay bills.
Secondly, you don’t do as much school work and your learning would be a week behind.
Thirdly, you will get to see your friends at school again because some people don’t get to see their friends in the holidays.
Lastly, people who work in offices like Mrs. Hood would not get paid for the extra week holiday and they have to pay bills and buy food too.
These are my reasons why school holidays should not be three weeks long.

Why School Holidays Should be 3 Weeks Long by Carl
Hi. My name is Carl and I am here to tell you why I strongly believe that school holidays should be 3 weeks long.
Firstly, school holidays should be 3 weeks long because there would be more time to sleep in, so our brains would be ready for school. Otherwise, we would be too sleepy and will not want to do any work.
Secondly, there is more time to tidy up the house and do some more house work to get the house spic and span in case friends or other visitors come to see you. (They might not have seen you for a while)
Lastly, teachers get more time to get all the work sheets ready for the next term. This means that they do not have to stay behind late at night. They will be able to get more sleep and have energy for the next day.
That is why I strongly believe that school holidays should be 3 weeks long, because there is more time to sleep in and tidy up the house.

School Holidays Should Be Three Weeks Long
Firstly, the children will all be happy and won’t be angry because the high schools have a longer holiday than them.
Secondly, the parents will be able to rest and sleep in, instead of having to get up and take their kids to school.
Thirdly, we would be able to see friends and family that you hardly get to see, like my cousins in Christchurch, or my auntie, uncle and cousins in Australia. I usually wouldn’t be able to see them because they all live so far away.
Lastly, teachers might be really tired because of being tied up with school work. They would be able to go on a holiday they usually wouldn’t have time to do.
And that’s why I think the school holidays should be three weeks long.

Recycling Centre by Marlin
Tuesday was the day that Rooms 4 and 5 went to the recycling centre around 12:58. At lunch time parents started to come and then we left at 1:10.
Later when we arrived we saw Briony. She said to put a safety jacket on so the drivers of dump trucks can see us.
We walked up some stairs and went into a big building there was plastic flying around in a big cage and there bottles and metal cans smashed into boxes. It was really loud.
The building and went back to the cars and waited for where we were going next.
Briony showed us where to go next it. Was the compost area and it smelt really bad In front of us was a machine that shredded up the compost .We walked beside big pile of rubbish and on the ground was a dead rat. It looked really funny.
Then we saw a big machine that covered the compost Briony said that the girls were better than boys on it (but I don’t believe that).
It was really fun and smelly I would like to go there again.
I learnt that you can have the milk lids on when you chuck them out.

Recycling Centre by Cameron
On the 30th of August, the parents, Room 4, Room 5 were going to the Recycle Centre.
Once we got there, we were introduced to Briony the tour lady. She briefed us about the dangers.
We started walking to a big green shed, but before we could we had to cross a busy lane that all the rubbish trucks use.
After that Briony said, “That’s the Recycling shed.” We walked in some huge doors; it was very noisy (190 decibels).
There were 29 conveyer belts and 1 huge magnet. 1 minute later and all the machines stopped but 1, The Crusher!!!!! (The crusher crushes all the cans and milk bottles).
After that we all got in cars and drove to the compost area. The Timaru compost area is the most high tech compost centre in the southern hemisphere. We saw a huge mulcher and a giant covering machine. I still can’t believe someone would put a lawnmower in a green bin. It takes 3 ½ months to make everyday food scraps into compost.
I think the recycle centre was very interesting because I had never been there before.
